How to measure promo-code interest without sales data
Reviewed by the usecode.sh team on
You measure the chain you own: views of your code page, taps through to the brand, and copies of each code, per day. Copies are the core signal because they are deliberate, per-code, and capture the buyers who never click. From those three numbers you can read demand, compare codes, and time content, all without ever seeing a sale, and without pretending you did.
The stack, from signal to decision
- Instrument once: every code on one page that counts views, taps, and copies per card. Captions and DMs produce no numbers.
- Attach content: link the video or post a code came from to its card, so spikes have causes.
- Read ratios, not totals. Copies per hundred views is your offer strength. Taps per copy shows how many people want the product tour versus already knowing what they want. Copies per post measures content, not audience size.
- Compare codes against each other, same audience, same page, which cancels out most confounds a small creator cannot control.
- Timestamp everything against your posting schedule; a code that only moves within 48 hours of a post tells you its life depends on content cadence.
What these numbers can honestly support
- "This code drew 4x the copies of that one to the same audience": solid.
- "Interest peaked the day after the second Reel": solid.
- "My code drove $3,000 in sales": not supportable from copies, ever. If the brand shares redemptions, reconcile; if not, report engagement and say so, per the reporting guide.
When sales data eventually arrives
The first time a brand shares redemption numbers, line them up against your copy curve for the same window. A stable copies-to-redemptions ratio becomes your personal conversion constant, and from then on your own dashboard forecasts what their report will say. That is the quiet payoff of measuring honestly from day one: your numbers earn the right to be believed. The wider context is in promo-code tracking for creators.
